NAHWS 001, Best of Kenya's Walking Safari-6 Days

(Nairobi City Tour, Nairobi Safari Walk, Crater Lake, Hell’s Gate, Longonot Crater)

Safari Highlights: This is an exciting 5 days walking safari that will take you to some of the best diversities of habitats, ethnical and cultural centers as well as beautiful sceneries and fresh aroma of the African bush, plains and valleys in Kenya. Walking safaris directly benefit the local people who provide guides as well as have minimal impact on the natural environment. You will start with an excursion around Nairobi City where you will visit some shopping areas, parliament buildings and the National Museum. Afterwards, you will depart for the Nairobi Safari Walk, where you will have a glimpse of different animal species in their natural habitats. Afterwards you will visit the Crater Lake, Hell’s Gate and Longonot Crater for a walking experience through hills and mountains, which are full of breath-taking beauty. You will need good weather-proof clothing, warm sleeping bag, water bottle, a good pair of walking shoes, a pair of binoculars and a camera (not a must) for a more unforgettable experience. During your safari the tour vehicle will forge ahead to pitch tents for camping and arrange for meals. After a few days walking, you will return to Nairobi exhausted but glad that you took the safari.


Day 1: Arrival - Nairobi - Nairobi City Tour

Upon your arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be warmly received by our Tour Manager who will brief you about your safari as you depart for a Nairobi City Tour. You will visit the Nairobi City centre, shopping centers and the Parliament buildings. The city market has a wide variety of African curios, tropical fruits and flowers for sale. You will also visit the Kenyatta International Conference Centre view-point from where you can get a clear view of the bustling Nairobi City. The Railway Museum will fascinate you as you observe exhibited old steam locomotives which include one from which Superintendent John Lyall was taken from by a man-eating lion in Tsavo in 1901. You will take a lunch break at one of the famous City Restaurants and after lunch depart for a walk to the National Museum for a cultural tour as well as the adjacent Snake Park for a view of some of the common reptiles found in Kenya. After your tour, you will check in at your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Dinner and overnight stay will be at Fairview Hotel or similar.

Day 2: Nairobi City Tour -Bomas of Kenya & Nairobi Safari Walk

After breakfast, you will depart for the Bomas of Kenya, which is a homestead famous traditional dancing and cultural centre. You will be able to see where the day-to-day lives of the 43 different ethnic groups in Kenya are depicted through traditional dancing, music, song and folklore. You will also experience the subtle sounds of African bush on foot, where you smell the fresh aroma of the morning grass with a local tribe guide guiding you with intimate knowledge to ensure that you do not miss a thing. Break for lunch at the famous Carnivore Restaurant and then visit the Nairobi Safari Walk, based 7km away from the city centre and about 30 meters from the entrance of the Nairobi National Park. Afterwards, return to your hotel for overnight stay and dinner.

The Nairobi Safari Walk is an eye opener to Kenya's National Parks and Reserves. It offers a thrilling opportunity to learn what visitors can expect to see across the country. It gives a taste of Kenya's wild and rich collection of animals which include the white rhino, rare bongo, albino zebra, collection of cats, primates and antelopes and home to over 150 recorded local tree and plant species. The park is a conservation-cum-education facility which gives visitors a sample of Kenya's rich bio-diversity. Within the park is a viewing point right above a watering hole where visitors get an opportunity to see all sorts of game as they arrive to quench their thirst. The area also has benches for those who prefer to sit and listen to birds singing and insects humming. The park has been designed to blend in with the natural environment as it is made of sisal, gum poles, waste bins and recycled items.

Day 3: Nairobi – Crater Lake Sanctuary (Lake Naivasha)

After breakfast, depart Nairobi and head for Lake Naivasha arriving at the Crater Lake in time for lunch at your lodge. After lunch, you will do a circular trek on the top of the crater from where you can see the lake from various angles and a close view of many bird species found here. After the walk, proceed to your vehicle for a return journey to your lodge.

Lake Naivasha is one of the Rift Valley’s fresh water lakes. Its biggest attraction is the variety of bird life seen on it and its vicinity. There are over 400 recorded species of birds in this area.

Day 4: Lake Naivasha-Hell’s Gate National Park

Wake up with the sun rising over the lake. The early morning is perfect for watching wildlife and taking an early morning walk. After enjoying your breakfast, you will be transferred to the park where you will walk among giraffes, zebras and warthogs as well as the many species of gazelles found here. The first part of the walk will take place in typical flat African savannah in a volcanic area bound by massive rocks. Take a short break and enjoy a picnic lunch depart for Hell’s Gate Gorge through wild vegetation and spouting water from geysers.

Hell's Gate National Park is situated in the environs of Lake Naivasha, about 90km from Nairobi. The climate here is mostly warm and dry but can be chilly at night. The park is a sanctuary to various animal species and has spectacular views of gorges, hot springs, scenic landscape as well as the Maasai culture. Activities that visitors can be involved in include hiking, rock climbing, camping, biking, bird watching and wildlife viewing.

Day 5:Hell’s Gate National Park- Longonot Crater

After breakfast, transfer to Longonot National Park. Longonot Crater is an extinct crater in the Rift Valley. You will start your walk with a steady climb to the crater rim which is the highest point in the Rift Valley. From this point, you will be able to have a wide view of the crater full of monkeys and soaring eagles. Walk around the rim of the crater then descend to the park gate and transfer to Naivasha town for a well deserved drink and lunch. Afterwards return to your lodge or camp for rest.

Day 6: Naivasha - Nairobi - Departure

After breakfast, check out of your lodge or camp and depart by vehicle to Nairobi town arriving in the afternoon in time for lunch at the famous Carnivore restaurant. After lunch you will be dropped off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to catch your flight to your next destination.

End of Safari.
