NAHAG 002 - 5 Days Lake Victoria Rural Peasant farmers' Agritourism Special


This is a 5 days intensive tour that will basically take you to the Peasant farmers whose livelihood depend on farming around Lake Victoria region in Kenya. These include Crop, Dairy, Fishing and Poultry farming.

Day 1: Kisumu City - Kisumu Rural Peasant Farms
You will be met at your destination at Kisumu and be taken to a farm on the banks of Lake Victoria within Kisumu rural villages. Tour the farms and see Oxen ploughing in action before having Lunch in the homesteads. In the afternoon visit a dairy farm and see the local Dairy farm with Graded cows Zero grazing. Proceed to Dinner and an overnight stay at a Kisumu Hotel.



Day 2: Kisumu - Gem Location
Depart Kisumu City in the morning after breakfast for Yala in Gem Location at the Millennium Projects area. Visit James Rading's home in Nyamninia and see how a widowed mother handles her daily farming activities which include Local chicken farming, Local cattle farming, crop farming and Fish farming. See the Banana Plantation and an upcoming Tree Plantation. Lunch in the homestead. In the afternoon, visit the millennium Farming projects within the region before returning back to Kisumu. Proceed to Dinner and an overnight stay at a Kisumu Hotel.

Day 3 Kisumu - Alego, Siaya
Depart Kisumu City in the morning after breakfast for Ulafu in East Alego Location. Visit the homesteads of Mr. Gilbert Adongo and Mr. Austin Omala and see the Oxen plough in action on the local peasant Farms. Visit the other homesteads and see how the other women and Women groups tend their farms. Visit Sarah Obama's Dairy farm at Kogelo Nyang'oma and witness Dairy farming Developments in this region. Chicken farming in the homesteads is quite admirable. Lunch is taken at a homestead. In the afternoon, visit the Dominion Farm in Yala swamp and see the Farming activities within the swamp and its environs. Return to your Kisumu City hotel for Dinner and overnight.

Day 4 Kisumu - Asembo Bay, Kamito
Depart Kisumu city in the morning after breakfast for Asembo Bay. Visit the home of a Local peasant and see the irrigation farming of vegetables along Lake Victoria. Goat farming and cattle rearing in Asembo Kamito are the main occupation of the peasant farmers. Lunch is taken at one of the homesteads. In the afternoon, visit Luanda Kotieno and see the Farming activities by the Lake shore,if time allows. Take a ferry across the Winam Gulf to Mbita. Proceed for Dinner and an overnight at Lake Victoria safari village.


Day 5: Mbita - Kendu Bay-Kisumu
After breakfast, visit ICIPE - Mbita Point, before proceeding to Homa Bay then to Kendu bay. On the way visit the homestead of Mzee Mwalimu Kabasa in Pala - Kendu bay and see the farming activities in and around the homestead. See the groundnut farming ,Goats and the Local cattle rearing. Lunch at a homestead. In the late afternoon, proceed to Kisumu, passing through the Rice scheme at Ahero, visiting the Rice farms, the rice milling factory before reaching Kisumu if time allows.
